The new trading card set, Abyss Eye, featuring Mega Darkrai ex, has been announced for release in Japan on 22 May. This is significant as it marks the introduction of newer Mega Evolutions from December’s Mega Dimensiondownloadable content (DLC).
Previously, the announcement was made four hours later than expected, following the weekly updates on the official website. The set includes a Pokedex entry for Mega Darkrai, which states, "Its dark power blocks out the sun, plunging the surrounding area into darkness."
The Abyss Eye set will contain 81 main cards and is expected to include 35 to 40 secret rare cards, bringing the total to around 120 cards. This aligns with the card counts of previous sets like Nullifying Zero and Ninja Spinner.
This will also be the first set affected by rising costs, resulting in a price increase for booster packs from 180 yen to 200 yen, and booster boxes from 5,400 yen to 6,000 yen.
The Abyss Eye set was initially revealed through trademarks about 10 months ago, with further details disclosed two months later. English-speaking fans can expect to see these cards in the Pitch Black set, which will be released on 17 July. However, no images or additional information about Pitch Black have been provided yet.
Looking ahead, the schedule for Japan’s upcoming trading card releases includes several sets featuring prominent Pokémon scheduled through October.
