Released on Disney+ this week, The Punisher: One Last Kill received mostly positive reviews, but one scene has attracted significant criticism. Viewers were surprised by a particular stunt shot that seemed to look like it was unfinished, leading some to believe that either time ran out or Marvel Television was satisfied with the result.
In the scene, vigilante Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal, falls onto a large crate after being pushed from a building. Many viewers noticed that it did not appear to show Bernthal’s face, giving the impression that it was made using computer graphics. Some compared it to video game cut scenes from titles like Grand Theft Auto or The Last of Us.
The scene quickly became a talking point on social media. Some viewers suggested it looked AI-generated, arguing that it lacked the realistic details of human-made graphics. Others expressed frustration, noting it looked like unfinished work that should not have been included in a major show.
However, a source close to the production explained that the shot was a real effect. Bernthal performed part of the fall, while a stuntman did the landing. The only visual effects used were the standard methods to replace the stuntman’s face with Bernthal’s. This mix of elements may explain why the shot looked odd.
The Punisher: One Last Kill continues the story of the character from the 2017 series, and he will next appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
