Satellite Captures Images of SpaceX Rocket Crash on Moon

A South Korean satellite took the first pictures of the moon’s crash scene. This happened because a SpaceX rocket hit the moon.

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute’s Danuri spacecraft flew over the impact site soon after the crash. The Falcon 9 rocket hit the moon on Wednesday. Danuri took multiple photos from orbit. These photos were released by the space agency on Thursday.

The ground looks darker where the rocket hit. It created a crater and spread dust and rock. Korean space officials said Danuri took before and after pictures.

NASA plans to send its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to look at the crash site next week. Elon Musk’s SpaceX launched Danuri from Cape Canaveral in 2022.

Last year, SpaceX also sent two private landers to the moon. The upper stage that crashed this week was going too fast at 5,400 mph (8,700 kph). This happened because of solar activity and gravity, according to SpaceX.
