South Dakota Mines is hosting the fifth Conference on Science at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) from May 14-16, 2024. The conference will bring together researchers from various scientific disciplines to discuss underground lab sciences. Around 100 researchers and students are expected to attend, focusing on current and future research efforts at the facility. The event aims to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and educate the next generation of researchers. South Dakota Mines faculty and students are actively involved in SURF projects, including experiments on dark matter, extremophile bacteria, geothermal potential, and more. The conference will also feature a special session for the SURF User Association to provide feedback and insights for future research. This gathering is expected to foster innovative ideas and discussions in underground science.
