Alan Osmond, eldest member of The Osmonds, dies at 76

Alan Osmond, the oldest member of the famous family singing group The Osmonds, has died at the age of 76. His family praised him for his significant role in their success, saying he “quietly carried so much responsibility” for them.

The cause of death has not been disclosed. Donny Osmond, the most well-known of Alan’s siblings alongside sister Marie, shared a black-and-white photo of Alan, describing him as the family’s rock and protector. Donny, 68, said that Alan was always watching over him and was a guiding presence in his life.

Alan was seen as a leader within the group, whose hard work contributed to their achievements. The Osmonds were initially a boy band with brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill, and Jay, known for their barbershop quartet style. Younger brothers Donny and Jimmy later joined, while sister Marie achieved success in her own career before teaming up with Donny for their widely popular variety show, “Donny & Marie,” which aired from 1976 to 1979.

The Osmonds achieved significant success on the music charts, with 13 songs reaching the Billboard Hot 100, including the number one hit “One Bad Apple.” Donny expressed deep gratitude for Alan’s sacrifices and love, saying he owed him more than he could express.

Merrill Osmond, 72, urged fans to celebrate Alan’s life, highlighting his strong faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He encouraged others not to grieve but to rejoice in the legacy left by Alan.
