The Australian Academy of Science is working on a ten-year plan to show how science can help achieve national goals and benefit Australia on a global scale. The plan, called ‘Australian Science, Australia’s Future: Science 2035,’ will evaluate Australia’s science system, its competitiveness, global collaboration, and its impact on the economy, security, and health. President of the Academy, Professor Chennupati Jagadish, emphasized the need for a strong science system to support the country’s ambitions such as decarbonization, economic diversification, and defense strengthening. The Academy will gather experts to inform this initiative, with consultations and analysis planned for 2024 and a final report expected in early 2025. The Advisory Panel includes distinguished members from various sectors. This initiative aims to equip decision-makers with the necessary evidence to address capability gaps strategically.
