Representatives of Canadian singer Celine Dion announced on Saturday that they did not authorize the use of her popular 1990s song “My Heart Will Go On” at a campaign rally for former President Donald Trump. They stated that they had not given permission for the song to be played at the event.
In a statement shared on Celine Dion’s social media accounts, her representatives humorously questioned the choice of using her song at the rally. A video clip of Dion performing the iconic theme song from the movie “Titanic” was featured at the rally in Bozeman, Montana, and had been played at previous Trump events as well.
Dion’s management team and record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada, were made aware of the unauthorized use of her music at the rally after the fact. They emphasized that Dion does not endorse this use or any similar use of her music.
It is not uncommon for artists to request that their music not be played at political events without authorization. In the past, artists like the Rolling Stones, Adele, Neil Young, and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler have all asked Trump to stop using their music during his campaigns.
Celine Dion, who recently performed at the Paris Olympics, revealed in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with a rare medical condition called stiff-person syndrome.
