There is a group called Central Colorado Humanists. They arrange a program called Sunday Science on the first Sunday of every month. A lot of people come for that program. They have this program at the Scout Hut in Salida.
This time, the topic is “The Federal Judicial System.” A woman named Judge Laughrey will be the speaker. She will talk about why the US has a judicial system. She will also discuss the structure of this system and how judges are appointed. She will even talk about the laws these judges have to follow. She will explain this with the help of some cases she has worked on.
Judge Laughrey became a judge in 1996. She was the first woman to become a judge in the Western District of Missouri. Before becoming a judge, she taught law at the University of Missouri. She also taught American legal principles in Austria for a program called Fulbright. She has made presentations to judges from different countries.
The meeting starts at 10:00 a.m. and it is free to attend. All are welcome!
