Joost Klein: Dutch contestant disqualified from Eurovision Song Contest

Share

Joost Klein, a Dutch singer, has been told to leave the Eurovision Song Contest due to a backstage issue. A female production crew member reported Klein for intimidating behavior. This is being handled by Swedish police. Contest organizers feel he should not continue during the legal process.

Dutch company, Avrtotros, called the decision unfair. They expressed their shock over the decision on social media.

Joost Klein had a favorite song, “Europapa”, for the contest. His song is for his father, who he lost to cancer when he was 12. Klein had pledged to make it to the Eurovision stage in honor of his father.

Early information about the incident suggests he had clashed with a member of the production crew. Contrary to rumors, the organizers said the issue did not involve any other performer.

Swedish police have confirmed that an investigation is going on. Subsequently, Klein has been removed from the grand final. This decision follows a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior by the European Broadcasting Union.
