Julianne Nicholson is set to return as Lori Ross in Season 2 of the HBO series “Task,” linking it with her Emmy-winning role from “Mare of Easttown.” Details about her character’s role in “Task” have not yet been shared. This connection is significant because both series come from Brad Ingelsby and are set in Philadelphia’s working-class suburbs.
“Mare of Easttown” first aired in 2021 and featured Kate Winslet as detective Mare Sheehan, who investigates a teenage mother’s murder. Nicholson played Mare’s best friend, Lori, whose son becomes involved in the case.
Nicholson is a two-time Emmy winner. She got awards for “Mare of Easttown” and her guest role in the HBO comedy “Hacks.” Recently, she appeared in “Paradise” and BBC’s “Dope Girls,” among other shows. Her film credits include “I, Tonya” and “Blonde.”
In Season 2 of “Task,” Tom Brandis, played by Mark Ruffalo, leads a new task force in a complex operation. Edgar Ramirez joins as Miguel Contreras, and Mahershala Ali plays Eddie Barnes, a respected DEA agent.
“Task” premiered in September with seven episodes. It was renewed for Season 2 in November, but a release date has not been set.
