Last week, on March 20, the Urban Entertainment Society held its Beat Battle at the Chris Young Cafe. The Beat Battle is a competition where student music producers show their work. This year, eight students took part for a prize of £150.
The Urban Entertainment Society helps students in any form of entertainment. They offer help to promote music and provide access to professional studios on campus. Their goal is to bring together students from different entertainment backgrounds.
Shannon Sanders, a well-known music producer, was invited as a judge. But he decided not to judge the performers himself. Instead, he let the audience choose who would move forward in the competition. He did not want to upset anyone who might lose.
Sophomore student JP Furtado won the Beat Battle. She began making music when she was in middle school. Furtado takes inspiration from her Cape Verdean background and from other artists. She plans to release her own music later this year.
