NASA is changing their plan for their mission to bring parts of Mars back to Earth. This comes after problems and it made the mission very expensive. The goal of the mission is to get pieces of Mars that may show if life ever existed there. The Mars Sample Return mission may now cost between $8.4 billion and $10.9 billion.
NASA’s head of science, Nicky Fox said, “We are looking at out-of-the-box possibilities that could return the samples earlier and at a lower cost.” They will look for new ideas to make things easier and cheaper. The Perseverance rover, which arrived on Mars in 2021, has already collected some samples. NASA is committed to get these samples back to Earth.
This mission is very important but it is also very hard. It needs strong leadership and commitment to succeed.
