Ratatan’s Nintendo Switch Version Cancelled, Developer Explains Reasons

The Nintendo Switch version of the game Ratatan has officially been cancelled. This news follows its previous mention during an Indie World Showcase earlier this year, where a version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 was confirmed, but no update on the original Switch version was provided.

An announcement on the official Kickstarter page revealed that Ratatan will not be released for the Nintendo Switch or the PlayStation 4. The developers explained that the anticipated sales for these older platforms could not justify the licensing fees required to complete their versions. Instead, they have chosen to concentrate on fewer platforms to ensure the game meets high-quality standards.

The statement discussed the various challenges the team faced while trying to accommodate multiple platforms. They had initially explored numerous methods to make the game available on all intended systems but ultimately concluded that prioritising specific platforms would allow for a better user experience. After discussions with their publisher, Game Source Entertainment, the team confirmed they could replace the cancelled versions with launches on Steam, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X.

Despite recognising the disappointment among backers hoping for a version on legacy consoles, the developers are focusing on their smaller platform list. They expressed commitment to investigating future possibilities for other platforms, while currently prioritising the launch for Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for July 16, 2026.
