Skype to Close in May
Skype will close in May, Microsoft has announced. Skype is a video-calling service that many people loved. It allowed users to make free voice calls to friends and family around the world.
Skype was not the first app for calls, but it helped many people connect. Users can now sign in to Microsoft Teams with their Skype accounts to keep in touch with their chats and contacts.
Microsoft bought Skype in 2011 for $8.5 billion. Over the years, Skype became part of other Microsoft products, like Windows and Xbox.
Many users shared their memories of Skype. One user said, “This is a sad day. It feels like losing a piece of my childhood.” Another said, "Skype was magic. It helped me talk to my grandparents in France without high costs."
In recent years, users chose other apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Microsoft now focuses on Teams, which offers features like group calls and file sharing. Skype users can switch to Teams or save their chats and contacts before closing.
