‘Widow’s Bay’ Confirmed for Second Season on Apple TV

Apple TV has announced a second season of Widow’s Bay, a horror comedy featuring Matthew Rhys as the mayor of a New England town. In this series, the town’s residents, except for him, believe they are under a curse. The show’s renewal comes just six days before the first season’s finale, which is set to air on June 17.

In a significant move, Apple TV has also secured a multiyear overall deal with the show’s creator, Katie Dippold. She will continue as the showrunner for Widow’s Bay and will develop additional projects for the platform.

The series has received positive reviews and has attracted a number of well-known fans during its first season. Dippold revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that she conceived the show nearly 20 years ago. She almost sold a version of it to Amazon back in 2013 but decided against it, sensing that the concept was not yet fully developed.

Widow’s Bay is produced by Apple Studios. Dippold serves as writer and executive producer alongside Hiro Murai, who directed five of the ten episodes, as well as Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, and Rhys. The cast includes Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, K Callan, and Jeff Hiller.

Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV, noted that the audience has become engrossed in the show’s mysteries and comedic elements. He expressed excitement about continuing the series. In a light-hearted remark, Dippold hinted that the upcoming season may jokingly portray the island as a place where "everything is great and there’s nothing to worry about."
