A Hell in a Cell match was planned for WWE WrestleMania 42 but did not happen. Reports say that Drew McIntyre was set to face Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship in this match. However, WWE chose to select a different main event. Now, Rhodes will compete against Randy Orton, and McIntyre is likely to face Jacob Fatu instead.
If the Hell in a Cell match had taken place, it would have been the fifth time this type of match happened at WrestleMania. Previous matches included famous wrestlers like Undertaker and Edge. Both Rhodes and McIntyre have experience in Hell in a Cell matches, having fought opponents like Seth Rollins and CM Punk.
Earlier this year, McIntyre won the WWE Championship from Rhodes in a special match that included a steel cage. Last Friday, Rhodes won the title back on SmackDown. This sets up the match between Rhodes and Orton at WrestleMania.
Dave Meltzer has reported that WWE plans for Rhodes and Orton to have a singles match. Orton earned this title shot by winning the recent Elimination Chamber event.
