EXCLUSIVE: In a recent development surrounding the 3x Golden Globe-winning film The Brutalist, it has come to light that AI technology was employed to refine the Hungarian accents of lead actors Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones. Director Brady Corbet has since responded to these revelations.
“Adrien and Felicity’s performances are authentically their own,” Corbet asserted. “They dedicated months to working with dialect coach Tanera Marshall to perfect their accents. The innovative Respeecher technology was exclusively utilized for editing Hungarian dialogue, focusing on specific vowels and letters to enhance accuracy. Importantly, no adjustments were made to the English lines. This manual process, conducted by our sound team in post-production, aimed to preserve the integrity of their performances rather than alter them.”
Additionally, AI played a role in generating architectural imagery for the film’s closing sequence. However, Corbet clarified, “Judy Becker and her team did not rely on AI for the buildings; all visuals were meticulously hand-drawn. The memorial video featured background images crafted to resemble subpar digital renderings from the 1980s.”
Corbet added, “The narrative of The Brutalist delves into the complexities of human experience, and every facet of its production was rooted in human creativity and collaboration. We take immense pride in what our team has achieved.”
