Ne Zha 2 Soars to $1.1B; Mufasa Hits $671M Worldwide

This film has made history by becoming the first-ever movie to gross $1 billion in a single market. Recent estimates from Maoyan indicate that Ne Zha 2 has amassed an impressive RMB 8 billion ($1.1 billion) in China alone.

With these figures, the sequel has already claimed the position of the seventh highest-grossing animated film globally. Maoyan has once more revised its projections for the film’s total earnings in China, anticipating a remarkable RMB 12 billion ($1.65 billion). While these estimates can vary, reaching this target would elevate Ne Zha 2 to the rank of the second all-time animated film internationally, and the eleventh overall. Keep in mind, this is achieved without any international revenue as the film is set to release in markets outside China, including the U.S., this week.

IMAX earnings for the film currently stand at $63.9 million; after just twelve days in theaters, Ne Zha 2 has already become the highest-grossing local language release ever in this format.

In other overseas news, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King continued to lead the box office, pulling in $8.5 million and maintaining strong performances in several key markets. The international gross has now reached $435.9 million, contributing to a global total of $671.1 million, with the $700 million mark now well within reach.

Looking ahead, the North America debut of Paddington in Peru approaches, having already surpassed $100 million overseas, while Universal’s Dog Man continues its rollout, expanding to additional markets and accumulating significant earnings.
