The Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the government’s human resources agency, confirmed the email’s authenticity. They asked employees to explain what they did last week in five bullet points by Monday. The largest union for federal workers criticized the email as disrespectful and promised to challenge any unfair terminations.
Musk claimed that many government workers were not working hard enough. He said that his team found evidence of fraud where people were being paid for doing little or no work. The Trump administration supported Musk’s efforts to cut government spending by reducing the workforce.
