Former Blizzard Devs’ RTS Loses Online Multiplayer After Server Acquisition

Frost Giant Studios, a game company, has announced that its game Stormgate will lose online multiplayer support next month. This happened because Hathora, its server partner, has been bought by an AI company. Hathora will stop its services at the end of April.

The studio shared this news on Stormgate‘s Discord. They said that the game will still work offline but that players will not be able to play online. Frost Giant hopes to bring back online play in the future, but this depends on finding a new partner.

This news is not good for the Stormgate community. The game raised $2.4 million through a Kickstarter campaign, but many players are unhappy. Recent reviews on Steam are mostly negative, and fewer than 100 players have been online at the same time this year.

Frost Giant also noted that AI tools were used during the game’s development to help with some features, but all final artwork was created by artists. Hathora provided server support for other games too, like Splitgate 2 and Spectre Divide. Now, Hathora is part of Fireworks AI, which aims to make a big impact in the industry.
