Honor Bisagno and her husband moved recently to Lincoln Park, Illinois. Shortly after settling into their new home, they noticed a peculiar sound at the top of their stairs.
They rent a ground-floor unit below another residence. Only a staircase with a door, which doesn’t fully close, separates their home from the upstairs. Their neighbors have a golden retriever named Biggs, and they soon realized the noise came from him.
“He heard us talking and wanted to come down. It was so sweet,” Bisagno explained to The Dodo.
Initially unsure if Biggs’ owners would allow it, Bisagno didn’t open the door. But determined Biggs pushed through and entered on his own, much to the couple’s delight.
Biggs was thrilled to meet his new friends, and they quickly became fond of him. After telling the neighbours, they were relieved to find them approving, even happy about Biggs’ newfound companionship.
Since then, Biggs has become a daily visitor, dropping by multiple times each day. “We now leave the door open, and everyone’s fine with it,” said Bisagno. His visits have helped foster a closer relationship between the couple and their neighbors, often leading to shared meals.
Not even being neutered could stop Biggs from visiting, as he appeared shortly after surgery, wearing his cone, still eager for company.
For Bisagno, what began as an unexpected encounter has enriched her daily life with Biggs now considered part of the family, connecting her with the local community.
