Alex Duong, a Vietnamese comedian, has died at the age of 42 after a battle with an aggressive form of cancer. He passed away on Saturday in Santa Monica following septic shock, as confirmed by his wife on social media. Duong’s wife, Christina, remembered him as a devoted husband and father who fought valiantly against his illness over the past year. She expressed her pain, saying that his suffering was immense, and his strength inspired those around him. The Comedy Store, where Duong worked, described him as a beloved family member who brought unmatched energy and dedication to his role.
Born on March 20, 1984, in Dallas, Duong left school to pursue a screenplay deal, which ultimately turned into a successful stage play. Prior to his diagnosis, he had been preparing to tour with fellow comedian Ronny Chieng and had notable roles, including a guest appearance on the series “Blue Bloods.”
Duong was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer, shortly after the Palisades fire affected his home. He initially delayed seeking treatment due to financial limitations but soon received medical care after his condition worsened. Despite starting chemotherapy and receiving support from friends and fans through a GoFundMe campaign, Duong accumulated significant medical debt.
A memorial service for Duong is scheduled for April 17 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where friends and family will gather to celebrate his life and contributions to comedy. Christina Duong expressed her appreciation for the support they received during this challenging time.
