Construction on a new entertainment area in Glendale has stopped. The developer and the city blame each other for this problem.
Work stopped on May 25. The area is named the Four Mile District. It is near Denver. The developer, Glendale Development Partners, said it had to leave the site because it could not continue.
The project started in 2024 and costs $150 million. It will have a movie theatre, restaurants, shops, and a large parking garage. This area was special because people could drink alcohol while walking outside until 4 a.m.
City officials wanted to open the district in 2026 or 2027. But last week, the developer said it could not continue. A company spokesperson said the lease for the land had ended.
The city lawyer disagreed. He said the city followed the rules and the developer is to blame for the delay. This is not the first time the developer went to court with Glendale.
The city hoped the project would improve the local economy. For now, there is no plan to restart construction. Both sides want to finish the project, but it is unclear when this will happen.
