Curry Barker, the director behind the successful film “Obsession,” is set to work on a new horror project with Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal Film Group. Barker will write, direct, and produce this third feature, which will be developed through established relationships with Blumhouse, Spooky Pictures, and Divide/Conquer. While the film’s plot remains under wraps, it is reportedly based on an original idea from Barker.
His second film, “Anything but Ghosts,” is currently in post-production and is produced by Blumhouse and Focus Features, the same company that released “Obsession.” Barker expressed excitement about collaborating again with Blumhouse and Universal, stating that they provide a supportive environment for bold storytelling.
NBCUniversal Entertainment chairman Donna Langley praised Barker’s ability to connect with audiences through his unique vision. She noted that his talent is pushing the boundaries of filmmaking. In a joint statement, Blumhouse’s James Wan and Jason Blum highlighted Barker’s exceptional originality and the importance of connecting with viewers, indicating their pride in collaborating with him on future projects.
Blumhouse, Spooky Pictures, and Divide/Conquer were involved in “Anything but Ghosts” even before “Obsession” was released. Following its success, “Obsession” has emerged as Focus Features’ highest-grossing film and is projected to exceed $300 million globally.
Universal Film Group will handle worldwide distribution for Barker’s upcoming project. In “Anything but Ghosts,” Barker will not only direct but also star alongside Aaron Paul and Bryce Dallas Howard, in a story about two fake paranormal investigators confronting real ghosts and the truths behind their business.
