Gerry Turner, the prominent figure from ABC’s The Golden Bachelor, has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with cancer. This revelation comes shortly after his marriage to Theresa Nist during a live ABC special in January, a union that ended in divorce merely three months later.
“As Theresa and I were striving to navigate our new lifestyle and determine where we would live, I received the unfortunate news of my cancer diagnosis,” Turner recounted in an interview with People.
The diagnosis came about when he sought medical attention for a shoulder injury. “At last, I found the time to visit the doctor, and the orthopedic specialist informed me that while my shoulder was beyond repair, some unusual blood markers had emerged,” he explained. This prompted a referral to an oncologist, and he is currently collaborating with a hematology-oncology group in Fort Wayne.
Turner revealed that he has been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer, a condition for which there is unfortunately no cure. “The weight of this news felt as if ten tons of concrete had been dropped on me,” he remarked. He admitted to experiencing denial about his situation initially.
After sharing his diagnosis with Theresa in February, he expressed the wish that their relationship could have taken a different turn. “It was a cherished memory during a whirlwind time, but I regret that my diagnosis significantly influenced my decisions,” he stated.
