Rosie O’Donnell is mourning the loss of her friend, Michelle Trachtenberg. They acted together in the 1996 film “Harriet the Spy.” O’Donnell remembers Trachtenberg as a talented young actress who could easily memorise lines and improvise. She described Trachtenberg’s family as very loving.
However, O’Donnell said that Trachtenberg then struggled with drugs and alcohol. Trachtenberg’s official cause of death was complications from diabetes, but O’Donnell believes addiction played a role. She tried to contact Trachtenberg’s mother to understand what was happening. O’Donnell invited Trachtenberg to meet several times, but she often did not show up.
O’Donnell stated that she did not think Trachtenberg would die because many people hope their loved ones will recover from addiction. She feels regret, saying, “I wish I could have done more.”
O’Donnell compared Trachtenberg’s situation to Whitney Houston’s. Both women faced severe addiction but did not receive the help they needed. O’Donnell understands this problem personally, as her own daughter has struggled with addiction too. She recently visited her daughter in prison, where she maintains sobriety.
