Sony has announced the indefinite decommissioning of the PlayStation 4 servers for the puzzle platformer game, LittleBigPlanet 3. This decision comes after the servers were temporarily offline due to technical issues. Fans are concerned that numerous player creations, not saved locally, may be lost forever.
In an update on one of its support pages, Sony stated that due to ongoing problems, the servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 on PlayStation 4 will remain offline indefinitely. This means all online services, including access to other players’ creations, are no longer available.
LittleBigPlanet 3, released in 2014, was popular for its creative gameplay and user-generated content. While offline features will still be accessible, players will no longer be able to share their creations or access content stored on Sony’s servers.
The closure of the PS4 servers follows a similar shutdown for the PS3 version in 2021. Recent security concerns, including malicious mods, led to the decision to keep the servers offline permanently.
Players are lamenting the loss of millions of user-generated levels and creations. The shutdown is part of a trend where online services for older games are being retired, such as Nintendo’s recent decision to end online multiplayer for Wii U and 3DS games.
Community manager Steven Isbell expressed sadness over the situation but assured players that he is available to listen and engage with the community. The closure of the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers marks the end of an era for many players who enjoyed the game’s creative platforming experience.
