Retail giants Walmart and Sam’s Club have announced significant summer discounts on a wide range of everyday essentials. The decision has attracted political attention, as President Donald Trump stated that the retailer acted upon his administration’s request.
In a recent press release, Walmart and Sam’s Club shared that these nationwide price cuts aim to help families save money during barbecues, vacations, and grocery shopping. The discounts cover several categories, including groceries, household items, outdoor goods, toys, and clothing.
For example, at Walmart, prices have dropped for items like fresh sweet corn, which is now priced at $0.25 each, down from $0.68. Other reductions include fresh red cherries priced at $5.63 instead of $11.18, and 1 lb. of fresh ground beef now costing $5.94, a decrease from $6.74. Similarly, soda 24-packs have seen a price drop, with Coca-Cola and Pepsi products now costing $9.97, down from $14.97 and $13.97 respectively.
Julie Barber, Walmart’s chief merchant, stated that the company is committed to offering value to customers, especially during the summer months. Sam’s Club is also reducing prices on over 250 items, including chicken wings and hot dogs.
President Trump praised Walmart in a post on Truth Social, calling it a “patriotic company” and stating that the price cuts were initiated to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday. He highlighted the significant reduction in ground beef prices.
Next, Walmart plans to continue its efforts in lowering costs across many of the items customers buy most often.
