Comedian Richard Lewis died on Tuesday evening in Los Angeles due to a heart attack, his public representative has said. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Lewis was best known for his role on the TV show “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and his funny yet open discussions about his personal problems. Actors and comedians have been praising Lewis and expressing their sadness on social media platforms.
In 2021, Lewis shared with the world that he was suffering from Parkinson’s disease and was giving up his stand-up career. He also suffered from many other health problems, including alcoholism, which he managed to overcome.
Larry David, the star and creator of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, said in a statement that Lewis was like a brother to him and made him laugh a lot. David also revealed that they were born three days apart, in the same hospital. David was very sad about his death and said that he would never forgive him for making him cry.
Echoing these warm words, HBO – the company which produced “Curb Your Enthusiasm” – described Lewis as extremely talented and hilarious. HBO sent its condolences to Lewis’s family, friends, and dedicated fans.
Other stars who paid tribute to Lewis were Cheryl Hines, who co-starred with him on “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, and Jamie Lee Curtis who worked with Lewis on the TV show “Anything but Love”. Both of them praised his talent and sweetness.
Apart from acting and comedy, Lewis is also recognised for his help towards others in fighting alcoholism. Jamie Lee Curtis has openly stated that she owes her sober life to Lewis and his unwavering support.
Despite the sadness of his passing, Richard Lewis’s memory lives on through his body of work and the good deeds he did throughout his life. His friends, colleagues, and fans are remembering him not just as a great comedian and an exceptional actor, but also as a kind and loving human being. His loss leaves a significant void in the world of comedy and beyond.
