Breeze Airways will expand its services to Birmingham, Alabama, and Tallahassee, Florida, starting in July. The Utah-based airline plans to begin operations at Tallahassee International Airport on July 2 and Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport the following day. Breeze will offer direct flights from both locations to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
This expansion is part of a broader growth strategy that includes 17 new routes. Among the newly announced services are flights from Akron-Canton Airport to Portland International Jetport, and from Atlantic City International Airport to Tampa International Airport. In total, Birmingham will have nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale and Raleigh-Durham on Mondays and Fridays beginning on July 3.
David Neeleman, the airline’s founder, stated that Breeze aims to connect underserved markets with affordable, direct routes. He believes these additional flights will save passengers valuable time that might otherwise be spent navigating through larger hubs or driving.
The airline is stepping into a changing market, as Spirit Airlines is currently experiencing financial difficulties and reducing its operations. Breeze’s new routes overlap with some of Spirit’s former services, particularly on routes like Fort Lauderdale to Birmingham and Tampa.
Breeze also aims to fill the void left by other airlines in the Florida region. The closure of Silver Airways in 2025 ended service to Tallahassee, while JetBlue Airways is ceasing operations to Jacksonville in March 2026. As Breeze grows at Fort Lauderdale, it will encounter competition from JetBlue, which is increasing its presence at the same airport.
Looking ahead, Breeze plans to continue its expansion, hoping to secure a larger share of the market in the coming months.
