The Nancy Grace Roman Telescope will launch from Kennedy Space Center. NASA plans to send it into space as early as this fall.
Next week, NASA will show the new space telescope. It was first called the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope. In May 2020, NASA named it after Nancy Grace Roman. She was the first chief astronomer at NASA and helped create space telescopes.
The telescope has a big mirror and special equipment. It will help scientists see more of the universe. NASA will ship it to Kennedy Space Center in Florida this summer.
Jamie Dunn, the project manager, said the telescope is ready. It went through many tests. The team faced difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they kept working.
The Roman Telescope will work alongside the James Webb Space Telescope. Roman can see large areas of the sky, helping scientists find new objects. It will conduct three main surveys to study the universe. Scientists are excited about what they might discover.
