Scott Pelley is preparing for a new chapter following his departure from 60 Minutes. The well-known journalist was dismissed from the programme in early June, a move that garnered significant media attention. Pelley has now signed with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) for representation as he seeks opportunities beyond CBS News, where he worked for 37 years.
The CAA will represent Pelley across all areas as he transitions in his career. Notably, his former 60 Minutes colleague Lesley Stahl is also a client of the agency. Pelley’s exit from CBS follows a heated confrontation with the programme’s new executive producer, Nick Bilton, during a network town hall on 1 June. This meeting became public when Pelley openly criticised Bari Weiss, CBS News’ new editor-in-chief. Pelley accused Weiss of attempting to undermine 60 Minutes, describing her early actions as "murdering 60 Minutes."
In response, Bilton addressed staff the following day, stating Pelley had used the meeting to undermine him and express contempt. Bilton emphasised his desire for respectful dialogue but considered Pelley’s remarks disrespectful. Pelley had been a prominent correspondent for 60 Minutes, known for his interviews with high-profile figures, including former FBI Director James Comey, President Joe Biden, and Pope Francis, and for his reporting from various conflict zones globally.
In his farewell message to staff, Pelley remarked on 60 Minutes‘ legacy, highlighting its reputation for integrity and quality. He expressed concern that the new management is dismissing this legacy to gain approval from the Trump administration.
