Miss North Carolina USA has lost her title due to a recent controversy that prompted action from pageant organisers. Brittany Boltinhouse, hailing from Duplin County, had been crowned after winning the Miss Wilmington competition. She was set to compete at the 75th annual Miss USA pageant on 27 August, but the runner-up, Myla Hadley, will now take her place.
The pageant organisers did not specify the exact reasons behind Boltinhouse’s disqualification. A Blaize Productions representative stated that the decision followed a “thorough review of recently surfaced information.”
The organisation has asked supporters and the public to show kindness to both Boltinhouse and Hadley during this difficult transition. They emphasised their commitment to treating all involved with dignity and their mission to empower future generations of women leaders.
Thom Brodeur, the chairman of Miss USA, addressed the situation, stressing that the organisation does not tolerate racism, homophobia, or any form of language that undermines dignity. He explained that a title represents a position of trust, and when standards are breached, the title cannot remain unchanged.
Brodeur further noted that while the organisation maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct, accountability should not strip individuals of their humanity. He highlighted the human aspects of this situation, acknowledging the public judgement faced by Boltinhouse.
He stated that Boltinhouse would soon issue her own statement, providing her perspective on the matter. Meanwhile, Myla Hadley expressed gratitude for the support she has received as she prepares for the Miss USA pageant, stating her readiness to represent North Carolina.
