Asus has officially unveiled its latest handheld gaming PC, the ROG Ally X, during the recent Computex 2024 event. This new device promises improvements in battery life, storage capacity, RAM, and more compared to its predecessor.
The most noticeable change in the ROG Ally X is its sleek black color variant, a departure from the white color of the original ROG Ally. However, the real upgrades lie within the device, with features like a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD storage, 24GB of LPDDR5-7500 RAM, and improved battery life with an 80Wh battery.
Asus has taken feedback about thermal issues seriously, with the addition of an extra vent in the ROG Ally X to help dissipate heat. The company claims this improvement can reduce the device’s temperature by up to 6 degrees Celsius.
Under the hood, the ROG Ally X runs on Windows 11, utilizing AMD Z1 Extreme CPU processors and RNDA 3 AMD Radeon graphics. It boasts a 7-inch LCD display with a resolution of up to 1080p and a refresh rate of 120Hz, supporting AMD FreeSync Premium.
While the ROG Ally X is not a direct sequel to the original ROG Ally, it represents an enhanced version with significant upgrades. Asus has hinted at developing a more powerful successor in the future. The device is now available for pre-order at $799.99 through Best Buy.
In a review of the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme, IGN’s Robert Anderson praised the device’s potential as a competitor to the Steam Deck.
