Pixar’s animated show “Win or Lose” will not have a character who is transgender. The show is about a middle school softball team and their daily life. A Disney spokesperson confirmed that this story was taken out. They said animated shows for younger viewers must fit parents’ preferences for discussing certain topics with kids.
Although the character is still in the show, references to gender identity are removed. Disney did not provide more information. This is not the first time Disney has faced criticism for having LGBTQ+ content, especially in its animated shows.
Last year, there was a big debate over Disney’s handling of an animation with a gay character. It led to a lot of talk when Disney refused to release an episode of Disney Channel’s show “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur”. This episode had a transgender character. But Disney said they did not release the episode for different reasons.
However, Disney continues to feature LGBTQ+ content in shows for adults. It’s not the only studio facing criticism over these issues. This is happening as Disney’s animation films are doing really well at the box office. The release for “Win or Lose” was set for this month but has been swapped with another show called “Dream Productions”. Now it is set to release on February 19, 2025.
