Last month, during the announcement video for the new Mac mini, Apple hinted at an “upcoming” version of Final Cut Pro for Mac users. This update is expected to be unveiled at the annual Final Cut Pro Creative Summit, which kicks off this Wednesday. The conference is organized in partnership with Apple, and attendees will have the opportunity to tour Apple Park on the first day.

Apple has already teased four significant features that will be included in the upcoming Final Cut Pro update:

  • Editing spatial videos recorded with devices like the iPhone 15 Pro and Canon EOS R7 will be a major enhancement, allowing users to create 3D content viewable on Apple’s Vision Pro headset.
  • The update may introduce instant application of AI-generated effects to videos, enhancing creativity significantly.
  • Automatic AI-generated captions will simplify accessibility, a feature much anticipated by users tapping into the booming market of short-form video content.
  • A new “Magnetic Mask” feature will likely facilitate isolating moving objects, allowing for intricate edits that could rival existing plugins.

Many of these enhancements may also influence updates for Final Cut Pro on iPad, in addition to improvements to its companion apps Compressor and Motion on Mac, as well as the Final Cut Camera app for iPhone.

Final Cut Pro recently updated to version 10.8 in June, which introduced various new features. Whether the next update will be classified as version 10.9 or a significant leap to Final Cut Pro 11 remains uncertain, but users are eager for enhancements like text-based editing and iCloud video library support.

In the United States, Final Cut Pro retails for $299.99 on Mac, while the iPad app operates on a subscription model priced at $4.99 per month or $49 per year.
