Is Ethereum to blame for the delay in altcoin season?

Share

The Altcoin Season Index currently sits at 35, indicating that many tokens are still struggling to recover from the market slump. A decrease in Ethereum’s network growth and trading volume could impede any potential upswing in the market. The concept of an “altcoin season” has been a hot topic in the market for months, but the reality has yet to materialize. For this anticipated period to commence, cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and others besides Bitcoin must outperform BTC, which has not happened yet. According to analysis by AMBCrypto based on data from Blockchaincenter.net, the Altcoin Season Index needs to reach 75 to confirm a true altcoin season. However, recent readings have fallen short of this mark, indicating a lack of momentum in the market. Despite hopes for an altcoin season, the performance of tokens like ETH, Cardano, and Ripple has been lackluster, with their prices decreasing over the last 90 days. Unless a significant number of the top 50 cryptocurrencies outperform Bitcoin, an altcoin season may remain elusive. The current stagnation in the market is reflected in Ethereum’s lackluster network growth, with only a small increase recorded recently. A surge in new addresses on the ETH network could potentially trigger a price rally, but with current growth rates, this seems unlikely. Similarly, the trading volume for ETH has also decreased, signaling a lack of interest in the token. Without significant growth in these key metrics, an imminent altcoin season remains uncertain.
