California recently set a renewable energy record through extensive use of solar, wind, and hydropower to meet its energy demand for 25 out of the previous 32 days. The landmark data was shared by Stanford University’s Professor Mark Z. Jacobson, who showed that California surpassed its previous sudden bursts of 100% renewable energy with sustained success for a longer period.
Commenting on the achievement, Jacobson wrote, “This is getting so easy; it’s almost boring.” His sentiment was echoed by Ian Magruder of Rewiring America, who stated that this has never happened before in history and deserves more attention as it represents a crucial milestone.
Replacing dirty energy sources like oil and gas with clean, renewable sources like solar and wind is crucial in reducing air pollution and global warming gases. Through this, California has shown that it is possible to counter the misinformation spread by dirty energy companies.
Although California still relies on a combination of clean and dirty energy, Jacobson predicted a full transition to WindWaterSolar energy by 2035. Referring to skeptics’ previous claims about grid instability posed by renewable energy, Jacobson stated confidently that “100% WWS is here to stay.”
