Some kids got very sick after having COVID. Doctors called it MIS-C. It made them have high fevers, vomiting, and heart problems. One doctor said it was a serious disease. They didn’t know why it happened at first. But now they do.
Doctors found that the kids’ immune systems attacked their own bodies by mistake. This caused inflammation, like friendly fire. The immune system thought a part of COVID was like a protein in the body. That’s why it attacked itself.
Today, MIS-C is rare and mostly happens to unvaccinated kids. But some still get very sick. Doctors are using new tools to understand why. They want to help all children who have serious immune reactions after getting sick.
