Passenger Falls Overboard on Royal Caribbean Cruise

Share

On the inaugural day of The 80s Cruise, a nostalgic voyage featuring musical performances by illustrious acts such as Squeeze, Adam Ant, Tiffany, and Men at Work, a tragic incident unfolded aboard the Royal Caribbean ship, Explorer of the Seas, when a woman allegedly fell overboard.

The individual has been named Kimberly Burch, the fiancée of Taime Downe, the lead singer of the rock band Faster Pussycat, which was included in the cruise’s entertainment lineup. According to a report from her mother, Carnell Burch, as relayed to TMZ, Kimberly reportedly plunged from the ship following a dispute with Downe; however, the circumstances surrounding her departure—whether accidental or intentional—remain ambiguous. Her mother contends that Kimberly would never have sought to harm herself deliberately.

A statement issued by Burch’s family expressed their profound grief, asserting that she “will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her,” and they implored for prayers as they navigate this heart-wrenching tragedy.

Witness accounts aboard the Explorer of the Seas corroborated that a meticulous search operation involving multiple vessels commenced after Kimberly went overboard around 11 p.m. on Sunday. The cause of the incident remains uncertain. Reports indicate that the ship continued its programmed voyage while the U.S. Coast Guard assumed responsibility for the search efforts.

A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean conveyed to The Hollywood Reporter that their crew promptly initiated a search and rescue operation, collaborated with local authorities, and offered support to the family during this challenging period. Out of respect for the privacy of Burch’s family, no further details were disclosed.

Accounts from passengers provided additional context; one anonymous individual recalled an announcement on the ship’s PA system indicating that a woman had gone overboard, prompting the vessel to halt and attempt a search.

The 80s Cruise, a week-long odyssey celebrating the music and culture of the 1980s, features more than 50 performances and affords fans the unique opportunity to interact with their musical icons. The current cruise itinerary includes stops at Nassau, San Juan, and Puerto Plata, departing from Miami.
