A new report says that the game “Last Sentinel” has shut down. This was a big open-world crime game made by a studio called Lightspeed LA in California. The game was supposed to compete with “Grand Theft Auto.” Recently, about 80 workers lost their jobs due to the shutdown.
Lightspeed LA was started in 2019 by Steve Martin. The studio aimed to create a cyberpunk game with a female lead in a futuristic Tokyo. They offered high salaries to attract experienced game developers. They wanted to hire the best talent.
“Last Sentinel” was shown at The Game Awards 2023, but updates about the game stopped. Last year, the studio shared videos about the game, but they did not show real gameplay. Workers said the studio could not meet high expectations. They faced issues with teamwork and leadership.
Earlier this year, a playtest got bad feedback. Tencent, the company behind the game, asked for improvements by July. Even with help from a new director, the game still did not meet quality standards. Tencent decided to stop the project but stated they might change how they develop the game in the future.
