Chrome’s Latest Updates Resolve 1,442 Security Flaws

Google has announced that it fixed 1,072 security bugs in its Chrome browser versions 149 and 150. This number is higher than the total fixes made in the previous 23 updates combined. Both versions were released last month. In the latest update, Chrome 151, released on Wednesday, 370 flaws were addressed, including seven critical ones.

The rise in reported vulnerabilities is partly due to the use of large language models (LLMs), which have made it easier to find bugs. Reports show that issues are now being flagged faster than companies can fix them. So far in 2026, nearly 47,000 security flaws have been recorded, close to last year’s total.

One significant vulnerability was a critical “sandbox escape” in Chrome, which could allow the browser to read local files on a user’s system. Google discovered this issue using its Gemini models and had been in the code for over 13 years.

To improve security, Google is changing its update process to release updates every two weeks, along with weekly security fixes. They are testing a system to apply security patches without needing to restart Chrome, making updates smoother for users.

Additionally, Google aims to reduce vulnerabilities by moving to safer programming languages and automating updates for third-party components. The company emphasizes that fixing bugs quickly is crucial to prevent attacks.
