Bungie’s new game, Marathon, is facing many problems. The game was supposed to be a fresh start for the company, now known for the popular series, Destiny. However, things have not gone as planned, and a lot of changes are happening.
Recently, Bungie ended its support for Destiny 2. This marked the end of an important series that lasted ten years. The last update was well-received, but there will be no continuation of the story or a new game. Shortly after, Bungie laid off many of its staff, losing nearly half of its team. This included many people who worked on Destiny 2 and some who were part of Marathon. Now, Marathon is the main focus, but it has not performed well in terms of player numbers.
Despite being a good game, Marathon has struggled to attract players. Its numbers show fewer than 10,000 players each night, which is not enough. The developers are trying to add new modes to attract more players. However, many believe this will not help much.
Bungie’s leadership thinks Marathon has potential, but it seems unlikely that it will save the studio. The game was not meant to carry such a heavy burden, especially after the issues with Destiny 2.
