Texas Hemp Industry Secures Temporary Injunction

A judge in Travis County, Texas, has stopped new rules for hemp businesses. This allows them to keep selling cannabis flower and concentrates for now.

Judge Daniella DeSeta Lyttle gave a temporary order on Friday. This order prevents health officials from enforcing a new rule about THC. THC is the chemical in cannabis that affects how a person feels. The rule counted another compound, THCA, towards the legal limit of THC in hemp products.

The new rules raised fees for hemp businesses. Annual fees for retail businesses went from £150 to £5,000. The judge’s order blocks these higher fees.

Jason Snell, a lawyer for the businesses, said they were very happy about the ruling. He said it protects the industry and allows customers to keep buying their products.

The judge also stated that the new rules could hurt many in the hemp industry. The ongoing case is set for trial on July 27. The state can appeal this ruling before then.
