Many staff are using AI tools at work without permission. According to a survey by Software AG, half of all workers use personal AI tools. Some do it because their IT team doesn’t provide AI tools, while others prefer their own choices.
John, a software engineer, uses Cursor instead of GitHub Copilot provided by his company. He finds it efficient and time-saving. Although unauthorized, he believes using it is easier than going through lengthy approval processes.
Peter, a product manager, uses ChatGPT through a search tool called Kagi to challenge his thinking and increase productivity. External AI tools are banned at his company, but he finds great value in using them.
Companies need to stay flexible with AI tools as the landscape is constantly changing. Even though there are risks with unauthorized AI use, the benefits for employees, especially younger ones, can be significant.
