AMD recently rolled out its first Zen 5 desktop processors, but the highly anticipated flagship Ryzen 9 9950X CPU is facing criticism. Initial reviews of the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X revealed underwhelming performance and efficiency, and unfortunately, the flagship 9950X seems to be following suit.
Hardware Unboxed conducted extensive tests on the 9950X, comparing it to its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7950X. Surprisingly, the results show that the 9950X offers only marginal improvements over the older chip, with minimal gains in gaming performance and productivity tasks. In fact, the 9950X was found to be just 1% faster in gaming benchmarks, leading Hardware Unboxed to deem it a “flop” in terms of gaming performance.
On the productivity side, the 9950X also falls short of expectations, with some tests showing a decline in performance compared to the 7950X. Despite AMD’s promises of a significant performance boost with Zen 5, the reality seems to be a letdown.
Critics, including JayzTwoCents, have expressed disappointment with AMD’s latest release, stating that the company has “fumbled this launch.” With Intel’s upcoming Arrow Lake desktop CPUs on the horizon, all eyes are now on Intel to see if they can deliver a more competitive product.
