Sony has not posted on its main social media accounts for over 72 hours after the closure of Bluepoint, a game development studio known for the Demon’s Souls remake. This silence follows a strong reaction from fans, who expressed their anger online.
While regional accounts, such as PlayStation UK, shared planned posts over the weekend, Sony’s main account has remained quiet. Fans reacted negatively to a post about another game, Marathon, which Sony planned to launch on 5th March. Instead of engaging with the game, many fans replied with criticism of Sony and other unrelated games.
The post about Marathon received nearly 2,000 replies, many of which were unkind. Some fans suggested closing down Bungie, another game studio, instead of Bluepoint. The timing of this post was unfortunate for Marathon, as it had been gaining positive attention before the backlash.
Sony is expected to stay silent for now, possibly until Monday, to allow the situation to calm down. When it does resume its posts, it might face more criticism from fans who are still upset.
