Refurbishment work is progressing steadily on the Jurassic Park-themed water ride at Universal Studios Florida. The attraction closed in January for an extensive renovation that is expected to last nearly a year.
While the specifics of this refurbishment remain undisclosed, the length of the closure has led to speculation regarding potential significant updates, particularly a complete overhaul aligning the ride with the Jurassic World theme seen in Universal Studios Hollywood.
Recently, aerial images provided by an X user and photographer, @bioreconstruct, revealed insights into the ongoing work. Much of the refurbishment remains hidden from park-goers due to temporary construction barriers. However, these aerial photos illuminate activities at the now-drained ride, showcasing significant changes.
Notably, it seems that the ride tracks are being entirely replaced. Workers are seen engaging with various metal components along the track’s main descent, with the new tracks appearing undamaged and vibrantly green after years of submersion in water. Such track replacements typically indicate major modifications in rides, commonly implemented as they age.
Additionally, the visuals indicate missing elements, including animatronic dinosaurs in the ride’s initial section. Temporary construction fixtures and cones scattered throughout suggest that various elements along the journey could be altered, irrespective of any overhaul concerning the ride’s overarching theme.
The workspace behind the primary showbuilding shows an aerial lift entering at the top right, potentially granting access to areas crucial for crafting the ride’s final experience. Construction activity appears to extend to the queue area as well, with evidence of ongoing demolition.
As renovations continue, further developments in the refurbishment are anticipated in the months ahead.
