United Airlines to Increase Checked Bag Fees by £10

United Airlines will increase checked bag fees starting on Friday. This change affects passengers who buy tickets from April 3. They will now pay an extra $10 to check a bag on most flights.

For domestic flights within the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Latin America, the standard fee will now be $50. However, passengers can still save $5 by prepaying for their luggage at least 24 hours before departure, making the cost $45.

The airline also raised the fee for a second checked bag by $10. The new cost for a second bag is $60, or $55 if prepaid. United Airlines is the second major U.S. airline this week to increase such fees. Airlines are facing higher jet fuel costs, which have also raised ticket prices.

JetBlue was the first airline to raise checked bag fees this week. Other airlines may follow United’s lead, as it is common for airlines to change fees together. United and many other airlines last raised baggage fees in early 2024.
