On Monday, the wrestling community received sad news about Tyler Mane, a retired wrestler and actor. He shared on Facebook that he has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has started chemotherapy. Mane plans to document his treatment to raise awareness among men about this illness.
Mane said, “Yep. I have breast cancer,” and noted that it is very rare for men to be diagnosed with this disease, as only 1% of breast cancer cases are in men. He admitted he originally wanted to keep it a secret because he felt embarrassed. However, he learned that men often find out about breast cancer too late because it is not discussed openly. He emphasized that this disease is not commonly searched for in men. His doctors initially dismissed his concerns, and it was only thanks to his wife encouraging him to get a lump removed that he was diagnosed early.
Mane encourages people to talk about breast cancer and hopes his story will spark conversations. He noted that one in 755 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and early detection makes it highly treatable.
Mane is well-known for his acting roles, including Sabertooth in “X-Men” and Michael Myers in “Halloween.” Before acting, he wrestled for eight years in various wrestling promotions in the US, Japan, and Mexico.
